How apple screwed me once again

Note: in this blog I usually write in Spanish so this is not a link bait but a beg for help.

Hi Internet,

My name is Diego Lapiduz and I am an apple-holic. I am a software developer and I live and work in Argentina but I travel a lot to the US.

I am a big fan of Apple, I have worked with Apple computers for almost 5 years now and I love OS X.

The problem started over a year ago when my business started to grow and started to buy Macs like crazy (not only for me but my girlfriend, parents, etc).

Let me tell you what happened with each of the computers I bought:

-  Jan 2007 - MBP: The first I got had a faulty logic board. I had to send it over for a replacement. The replacement got the case misplaced. Sent for another replacement. The third one was ok and with some specs improvements. At first I said cool same money, more computer, but it was over a month until I got a working unit.

-  Jan 2007 - Macbook: shipped in great shape the problem is starting now with cracks and some top case problems but I have Apple Care and they offered to change it so I can’t complain much.

-  Sep 2007 - Black Macbook: I thought it was better that I picked it up at the store so I could exchange it there if something was wrong. Something was in fact wrong, the trackpad had a bump so I went over there talked with the manager and got me another one.

-  Nov 2007 - iMac: is in great shape, it is a bit slow and some bugs raised but it works.

-  Feb 2008 - MBP: My irritation started here my last, brand new, sparkling, acquisition. I was waiting for the Macbook Pro updates like much people and almost bought a MBA but after I saw them I got a MBP 2.5 with the 7200 rpm disk and 4gb of ram. A great computer and, with ADC, a great price. After I got it I installed everything quickly thanks to Time Machine.

Thoughts about Apple: “I love them”

The first night the hard disk started to do some clacking noises. I knew that the HD was failing so, since I was going on a trip the next day and after a few days coming back to Argentina, I went to the Apple Store on Fifth Ave at 2 a.m.
The guy over there was very nice and told me that since the computer wasn’t booting he needed to do an “Archive and Install”. He did that and it worked flawlessly.
I was confused and astonished but I couldn’t say anything. The test were passing fine, the system was booting, everything was fine.

Thoughts about Apple: “Everyone has its drawbacks”

I went on my trip, came back to Argentina, spend a couple weeks with the computer when the clacking came back.
The disk tests weren’t passing anymore, the drive started to have more latency and I was pretty pissed.

Thoughts about Apple: “You’d better be kidding me”

I got the computer to the Apple Authorized Service (no store down here) and they told me that the disk was faulty and that they would replace it. The estimated delay was 20 days and they said that if Apple was in a good mood they would send it by DHL and the delay would be shorter.
I thought that, since Apple screwed me so many times, they would send it with the Road Runner.

I called Apple (US) to ask this: “can someone ship the disk faster?”

Answer: “If the computer isn’t in the US: NO”

Q: “I have a friend that is coming from the US, can you ship the disk to him”

A: “NO”

Q: “Can you do something?”

A: “NO”

They didn’t. They, in fact, haven’t sent it yet. It is a month since my computer is at the shop and it isn’t fixed.

Thoughts about Apple: “!*#@*#@*!”.

So, Internet, I would be very grateful if you could help me here. I need someone at Apple to send this disk asap, so if you are in Apple please send me an email to diego [at] lapiduz [dot] com.

I am getting desperate here so if you know someone at Apple please send this to them, or, if you don’t, please digg this or send it to someone that might. And beware of traveling with an Apple computer you are almost on your own.
